Thursday, April 20, 7 – 8 pm., Homestead Valley Community Center
Have you been out on our trails and noticed piles of broom? or found a meadow where a broom patch once stood? We’ve been busy restoring habitat in Homestead! Please join Marabeth Grahame for a slide show presentation at the Community Center chronicling this process that began in late 2015 and has resulted in the removal of many of the largest invasive broom stands on our land.
Marabeth, a Homestead native whose father, Lou Harding, was one of the original trustees of the Land Trust, was inspired to get working out on the land by the disturbing news that our oaks are being decimated by Sudden Oak Death. Focusing on oak woodlands, she and other dedicated Homestead residents, have removed invasive broom from this habitat, clearing room for oak saplings and other native plants.
